Not All Grams of Kratom Are Equal

I have received numerous (NUMEROUS) phone calls from people who have purchased Kratom powder and capsules from other vendors. They are perplexed that it doesn’t seem to be working for them…even when they are increasing the grams they are taking. The next question is always, “How much should I take?”. I am not a physician, and therefore cannot offer medical advice. Having said that, I can explain why a gram isn’t necessarily a gram.

The primary alkaloids that contribute to the effects of Kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Those alkaloids naturally appear in the leaf of a kratom tree in various percentages. For mytragynine the percentage ranges between .5%-2%. Obviously the .5 is the very bottom of acceptable and will require a higher volume in order to achieve the same effect as the leaves containing a greater percentage. (Extracts and Enhancements have different processing methods, and will be discussed in a different blog)

The higher percentage of mitragynine usually occurs in trees that are about seven years old. With the boom of the industry, many farmers are harvesting younger trees and are therefore providing an inferior product. Also, just like any herb or spice the age of the finished product results in reducing the quality of any herb and spice. A product that has sat in a warehouse for a year will not be of the same quality as a fresher product. Finally, how the product has been stored is a factor. Sitting on pallets on a loading dock for days on end will diminish the quality as well.

The plants that contain lower percentages are usually sold to your vendors at a considerable discount. That vendor usually will not pass those savings on to you, resulting in a much greater profit margin for them…and lower quality kratom for you. Since you are then having to increase the grams you are consuming it is a double boom for the vendor, because you are having to order much more often.

What can you do to ensure you are receiving the best quality? Only work with vendors that are lab testing for the alkaloid levels as well as contaminants. The fact that a vendor is stating that their Kratom is third-party lab tested is not enough.

When we started this company, we wanted to build something that we could take pride in and someday leave to our kids. We believe that providing superior products is worth the added expense of only working with growers who have been responsibly managing their crops for at least 10 years. We also believe that absorbing the additional $100 cost per lot lab is an imperative investment to achieve the quality we desire. We are still able to sell at a competitive price because we have built and are continuing to build a base of loyal customers.

Obviously, I hope that you shop with us. I promise you that we will earn your business.
