Let me first begin by offering an explanation of how kratom works in the brain.
The effects of Kratom are caused by two primary alkaloids, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Mitragynine is an indole alkaloid. It binds to the mu receptors in the brain. Opiates are isoguinoline alkaloids. Although they do bind to the mu receptors, they also bind to the d and k receptors. Therefore, you can't make a true comparison.
Mitragynine has not been found to be habit forming in mice. 7-hydroxymitragynine has. Mitragynine makes up no more than 2% of the leaf, 7-hydroxymitragynine makes up far less than 1%.
I have found that blending my kratom with other herbs not only reduces my actual dose of kratom, it enhances the effects and reduces the load on the liver. For a fact, some of the herbs that I use are actually good for you. I'd much prefer that to trying to combat side effects.
Which herbs to blend depends greatly on the desired effect. For example, for anxiety a blend of kratom, valerian and betony works marvels. Taken in a lower dose for anxiety and a higher dose for sleep. In comparison, most people will need to take at least 5ml of kratom tincture, as opposed to 1ml of a blend when taken for anxiety.
A blend of kratom and rhodiola is magnificent for depression. Rhodiola has been found to also help regulate blood sugar, improve physical endurance, reduce anxiety and depression, improve memory, lower blood pressure, protect arteries, protect the liver and protect healthy cells during radiation therapy. Again, you receive the benefits while reducing your kratom dose.
A blend of kratom, rhodiola and yohimbe is awesome as a pre-workout.
Blending kratom with ginger helps reduce some of the gastro effects some people experience with kratom.
A blend of kratom and black tea (or coffee) will improve it's analgesic effect, if you are taking kratom for pain management.
For full disclosure, I sell most of these blends. But I wouldn't be selling them if I didn't know for a fact that it is extremely beneficial.
